Work has begun on a new office block designed to house more than 1000 workers.

Abstract Ltd began work on Renaissance, a five storey, 100,000 sq ft on June 20, six months after acquiring the land on Dingwall Road, East Croydon.

The company, which hopes to complete the £35m project by August 2013, promises to construct a pedestrian bridge to link with East Croydon Station and the proposed redevelopment of neighbouring Ruskin Square.

Mark Glatman, chief executive of Abstract, said: “Renaissance is Croydon’s first speculative commercial office development in 20 years and starting construction so quickly underlines Abstract‘s commitment and confidence in the regeneration of Croydon.

“Croydon has been overlooked by Central London occupiers for many years, but now offers a very compelling story. In addition to substantial infrastructure investment over the last few months, it is also the focus for other significant investment, not least in its retail offering.”

The company predict the offices, when fully filled, will house 1100 staff.
