Cycling has always been seen as a green way to travel and now even the bikes can be made from plants.
Blue Door Bicycles, Upper Norwood, has become one of the first UK retailers to sell bamboo bicycles, and the first in the south of the country.
The mountain bikes, designed and crafted in the UK by company Bamboo Bikes, the mountain bikes feature frames made from the durable plant, which is used around the world in scaffolding and even building. Blue Door Bicycles’ owner, David Hibbs, said: “This is quite a historic shop, which started selling bikes in the late 1940s. But this is the first time I know of that it has ever sold anything made of bamboo.
“We are delighted to be selling Bamboo Bikes, which offer the mountain biker a great riding experience and great looks.”
The bikes were unveiled at the store on Saturday, May 26.
Prices range from about £1,800 to £2,500 with only adult models available.
