Teenagers who robbed a schoolboy of his Oyster card and deodorant have been handed a youth referral order just two days after the offence.

The boys, 13 and 14, admitted to robbing the 13-year-old victim in Station Road, Croydon, on March 6 before spraying lit jets of deodorant at him, chasing him to West Croydon station, and assaulting him.

He was left with cuts and bruises.

The two youths, who cannot be named, were arrested the next day, appeared in Croydon Magistrates Court on Friday March 8, and were handed an 11-month youth referral order.

DC David Shahbazi, from Croydon’s Robbery and Burglary Squad, said:“This was a nasty robbery and the youths responsible not only stole personal property from the victim, but purposely followed and assaulted him as well.

“We take all allegations of robbery and assault seriously and those involved can expect to be arrested and brought before the courts by police.”
