Croydon rioters living in council homes could be evicted

Rioters who live in Croydon Council homes will be evicted if convicted, the council has confirmed.

Following moves by Greenwich, Southwark and Wandsworth councils, Croydon Council said last night where possible it would evict council tenants convicted of rioting offences.

It comes as the authorities look to come down hard on those responsible for the scenes of violence and destruction on Monday night.

Hundreds of suspects were dealt with by the Croydon Magistrates Court last night, with the majority being remanded in custody.
