Eco-conmen attempt to scam cash from Croydon homeowner

A pair of eco-conmen have attempted to con a homeowner out of hundreds of pounds after talking their way into his home.

The two men posed as council contractors to get into the house in Heathfield Road before demanding £500 deposit to carry out work in the house’s hallway.

No money changed hands as the potential victim had serious doubts the men were telling the truth, and he contacted trading standards about the attempted con.

Both men were described as wearing dark green jerseys with the letters ECO in yellow on the chest.

Steve O’Connell, Croydon Council’s cabinet member for community safety, said: “We would like anyone who knows anything about these two men or the company they seem to be working for to come forward in confidence, so that we can make sure that no further incidents of this nature take place.”
