A call centre firm which plans to get 10,000 people into short term work over the next seven years has been launched in Croydon.
Call Britannia aims to open 10 call centres across the UK, giving staff a minimum of six months employment while equipping them with skills, training and experience to help them once they "graduate".
More than £1m has been invested in the company by social enterprise funds, with the company set to base its new offices in economically disadvantaged areas throughout the country.
Six new recruits who were long-term unemployed have already started on the training scheme, with another 18 expected to join before the end of the year.
Jim Knight, the Government’s employment and welfare minister, said the new jobs would enable young people and the long-term unemployed “to get experience that will really boost their long-term employment prospects”.
