The woman accused of killing Coulsdon student Meredith Kercher arrived in court yesterday wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with a Valentine’s day message.

Amanda Knox appeared in an Italian court room with the slogan “all you need is love” underneath her cardigan, and a broad smile on her face.

Miss Knox, 21, is accused alongside her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 24, of murdering Miss Kercher while sharing a room together in Perugia.

The victim was found with a slit throat in the bedroom she shared with Miss Knox.

Giving evidence on Friday, Robyn Butterworth, a friend of Miss Kercher, said Miss Knox was emotionless as several of the victim's friends gathered at a police station after the killing.

She said: "I found Amanda's behaviour very strange and I found it quite difficult to be around her."

Miss Butterworth, a fellow Leeds university student, said the victim's British friends and Italian flatmates had hugged each other and cried after her body was discovered.

She said by contrast Knox and Sollecito were "joking, kissing and cuddling, and laughing together".

Judge Giancarlo Massei adjourned the trial until February 27 when police and forensic officers will give evidence.
