A four-year-old boy from Croydon has saved his mother’s life by calling 999 after she collapsed.

The young boy called Roman managed to use the ‘Siri’ function on his mother’s iPhone to ask for help, which then put him through to the emergency services.

Roman can be heard telling the call handler that his mummy was ‘dead’ in the audio of the call made on Tuesday, March 7, and which has been released by the Metropolitan Police,

When asked what he meant, Roman replied: “It means that she’s closing her eyes and she’s not breathing.”

Roman also followed instructions to try shaking his mother and shouting “mummy”, but his mother did not regain consciousness.

He was able to provide the call handler with his address in Kenley, where police and paramedics found Roman, his twin brother and younger brother inside with their mother, who was lying unconscious on the floor.

His mother regained consciousness after receiving first aid from paramedics and was taken to hospital, but has since returned home.

Chief Superintendent Ade Adelekan, from the Met’s command and control unit, said: “Hearing this call brings home the importance of teaching your young child their home address and how to call police or emergency services in an emergency situation.

“If you do nothing else today, then I’d implore any parents of young children to sit down with them and make sure they know what to do in this kind of situation, and that they know how to contact police or other services in an emergency.

“As this case demonstrates so poignantly, it could really be the difference between life and death.

“It’s an amazing story and thanks to his quick thinking, and by asking ‘Siri’ for help, this little boy saved his mum’s life and it means she is still here and can be extremely proud of him and his brothers.”
