Croydon Council will relax their parking charges in car parks and on-street bays during the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.

The decision to encourage shoppers to visit shops in and around the borough was taken again this year.

Parking will be free in council car parks and bays across Croydon on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

But, yellow-line, footway and bus lane restrictions will remain in place on those days.

Parking enforcement officers will be on duty although they will not be monitoring parking bay offences.

Regular enforcement will, however, be in force from Tuesday, December 27, to Friday,December 30, and will resume again on Monday, January 2.

Councillor Stuart King, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “The council is once again giving a little back to residents and visitors at this special time of year by taking the opportunity to relax the usual parking charges on set days over the Christmas and New Year period.

“All we ask is that motorists are sensible and thoughtful when parking their car. They should ensure that they leave it in such a way that it won’t be a nuisance or hindrance to others.”
