A series of free events are coming to Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton to encourage people to do more recycling and repairing.
The South London Waste Partnership and Recycle for London will be hosting 15 events throughout October and November to try and convince people to send less rubbish to landfills.
Chair of the South London Waste Partnership joint committee, Councillor Phil Doyle, said: “If we’re honest with ourselves, I think the vast majority of us would have to admit that we occasionally throw things away that, with a little more effort and thought, could have been repaired, altered, given away or even sold. The environmental cost of disposing of electronic items and clothing can be very high.
“I hope this program of events throughout the autumn will show residents that repairing and reusing can be great fun as well as being more environmentally responsible than disposal.”
Miss Libby Rose will run 'Love Your Clothes' sewing workshops
A series of ‘Restart Parties’ will be held in each borough, where residents can bring electronic items to be repaired, and learn how to repair them. There will also be ‘Jumble Trails’ where residents can set up stalls to sell their bric-a-brac and ‘Love Your Clothes’ sewing workshops, where Miss Libby Rose in bright pink van will help to help repair old clothes.
