A Thorton Heath man has appeared in court accused of stabbing another man in Selhurst.

Glen Manders, 46, appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and taking a vehicle without consent.

Police cordoned off Neville Road on Thursday following the stabbing in nearby Owen Close at about 5pm.

One witness claimed the victim of the stabbing was a delivery van driver who had been knifed in the stomach and the chest.

Leo Jayawardena said: "Looks like a Yodel van and driver and two others were involved. The van driver was stabbed to the stomach area and chest, the two guys then jumped into the Yodel van and drove off."

Officers at the scene said the injured man had been taken to St George's Hospital, Mr Jayawardena added.

Another witness described how he had been caught up in the aftermath of the stabbing, when a van speeding away from the scene slammed into his car.

Colin Maher said: "The van that hit me was covered in blood down the driver's side. The male driver had no care in what he hit. He slammed the van into the side of my vehicle resulting in being barged out the way causing in severe damage to my vehicle.

"I was not the only vehicle damaged by this driver. Several cars were involved when the driver drove down Stretton Road barging everything out of his way."

Mr Manders, of Woodville Road, was remanded in custody before his next court appearance.
