A man was arrested after police found a stash of chemicals at a house in Norbury.

Roads in the area were closed after officers discovered the chemicals at an address in Stanford Road on Friday evening.

They had been called to the house at about 7.40pm following reports of a man setting fire to a bed.

On arrival officers found evidence of a small fire that had been put out, while a man was arrested after it emerged he was wanted for failing to appear at court.

A "quantity of chemicals" were also found at the house, a police spokesman said. Roads in the area were closed while the chemicals were examined.

There was still a police presence outside the house on Monday morning, although roads have reopened, the spokesman added.
