South London actor Tom Holland is so good in his role as Spider-Man that the character's originator Stan Lee believes he could not have created a living being to be better.

Holland, who was raised in Kingston, attended college in Wimbledon and studied at Croydon's BRIT School, shone in this year's Captain America: Civil War blockbuster as webslinger Peter Parker.

Marvel Comics legend Lee told an audience at Denver Comic Con that Holland's work was "wonderful", Comic Book Resources reported.

Lee added: "He is great. I can't believe it. It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man, and it turned out to be him."

Holland is set to star in next year's Spider-Man: Homecoming, as the beloved wallcrawler is brought further into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after five films produced by Sony.
