A pensioner who broke her hip may have been the innocent victim of a West Croydon street fight, police believe.

The woman, 70, was standing outside West Croydon post office on London Road waiting to cross the street while two men and a woman fought nearby.

Officers believe the 70-year-old was caught up in the fighting and had her shopping trolley pulled away, causing her to fall to the ground.

She has since spent weeks in hospital with a broken hip.

The three people involved in the disturbance are described as a black man, a light skinned black man and a black woman with a young child in a pushchair.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the fight on Wednesday, September 30, at about 2.25pm, to come forward and speak to them.

Detective Constable Sadia Hayat said: "We are keen to talk to anyone who was in London Road and saw what happened. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who might have been outside West Croydon Post Office."

Anyone with information should call DC Hayat at Croydon CID on 020 8276 2198 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
