Counter-terrorism advice will be given to the public during the UK’s second national Counter Terrorism Awareness Week, as the country’s threat level remains at “severe.”

The Metropolitan Police’s counter terrorism deputy assistant commissioner Neil Basu said the recent attacks in Paris brought into sharp focus the threat posed by terrorism, and the public’s role in helping to protect the UK from this threat is vital.

Specialist counter-terrorism officers will be carrying out a series of Twitter web chats via @PoliceChiefs this week, and guidance documents will be published at gov.uk/nactso.

Suspicious behaviour can be reported by calling 0800 789 321 or by visiting gov.uk/report-terrorism.

Commander Basu said: “Whilst recent events in Paris were both sickening and horrific, people shouldn’t feel powerless.

“There is still lots you can do as ordinary members of the public, as neighbours, as employees and even as parents to keep an eye out for the unusual and let us know."
