A drugs gang that pushed millions of pounds of cocaine onto London's streets has been jailed.

Three Croydon men were among six people locked up yesterday after a police swoop in March uncovered after a £6.3m stash of the drug on a house in Caterham.

Nexhip Shehi, 27, of South Croydon, Athanasios Anastopoulos, 28, Norbury, and Vladamir Palushi, 26, of South Croydon, had admitted possession of a class A drug with intent to supply at Guilford Crown Court on July 10.

They were arrested along with Bib Gjegjaj, 27, of no fixed abode, Rezart Lepuri, 42, of Shepherd's Bush, and Dorjan Ramaj, 24, of Chiswick, after police stopped three vehicles carrying cocaine away from the Croydon Road property on March 12.

Surrey Police and the National Crime Agency, dubbed the "British FBI", found 33kg of cocaine during the raid.

All six pleaded guilty to the same charge and were sentenced yesterday.

Gary Matthews, NCA branch operations manager, said: "This joint operation has brought down a significant organised crime group responsible for putting large quantities of class A drugs worth many millions of pounds on to the streets of London and beyond."

Shehi, of Brighton Road, was jailed for 12 years, Palushi, of Whitstable Place, was jailed for 11 years, and Anastopoulos, of Green Lane, was locked up for nine years.

Gjegjaj was jailed for four-and-a-half years, Lepuri was sentenced to four years, and Ramaj was jailed for three years and nine months.

Detective Constable Harry Robberts, of Surrey Police's Serious and Organised Crime Unit, said: "Illegal drugs destroy communities. Not only are those dependent on drugs harming themselves but anyone who has been a victim of crime as a result of a user needing to fund their habit are also affected.

"This operation has yet again shown how Surrey Police will take robust action against those suspected of dealing drugs in our communities and I hope the sentences passed today demonstrate our commitment to keeping the people of our county safe."
