The fifth annual Purley Festival is underway.
On Monday organisers were joined by Croydon South MP Chris Philp, council leader Councillor Tony Newman and Simon Cripps, chairman of Purley Business improvement district at Christchurch, Brighton Road to cut a cake and officially launch the week-long event.
Activities ranging from yoga and exercise classes, singing workshops, reading and storytelling sessions, business advice, history talks and live theatre and music are being hosted around the area before a weekend of fun on Rotary Fields.
Headlining the main events will be will be jazz funk band Shakatak on Saturday and on Sunday soul singer Omar, will bring the week of fun to an end.
Festival organiser Fiona Lipscombe said: "To have two terrific headliners in Omar and Shakatak, as well as the strength of the rest of the line up, goes to show how far Purley Festival has come.
"2015 is shaping up to be the best edition yet and I hope everybody is excited about it as we are."
