People living in the north of the borough have got the power to stop the council’s proposals to introduce 20mph speed limits in their area or give them the green light.

Streets in parts of South Norwood, Selhurst, Bensham Manor, Thornton Heath and Upper Norwood except major through roads will get the limit if enough people back the plans.

The plans do not include Transport for London red routes like London Road or busy through roads such as Beulah Hill or Whitehorse Lane.

Croydon Council’s cabinet decided in March to ask people across the borough if they want the speed limits, and the north is being consulted first before the council asks people in other areas from next year.

Go to www.croydon.gov.uk/20mph to see the consultation documents or call 020 8726 6000 extension 52831 to request a paper version.
