Four people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two men were stabbed in Crystal Palace.

Police were called around 6.30pm on Sunday (March 22) to reports of a stabbing in Crystal Palace Park.

They found two men aged 42 and 38 suffering from stab wounds.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended, and the Met Police helicopter was also scrambled to the scene.

They were called to Crystal Palace Parade, and an LAS spokesman confirmed they took two men as priority to hospital.

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Neighbour Anthony Willis, 41, who lives on the border of the park, said: “I was there just before, about 5.30pm. I didn’t see or hear anything, no sirens or shouting.

“You would assume its kids or gangs caught up in this sort of thing.”

The married father, from Crystal Palace Park Road, added: “I’ve lived by the park since 2012, but nearby for four years.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this happening before. I didn’t think there had been much violence around here.

“My wife gets angry when I walk across the park about 2am.

“It is worrying. I hope they’re ok.”

Four people were later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody at south London police stations.

Local resident Martin Thomas, 37, said: “It’s shocking to hear about the stabbing.

“There was that murder that happened at Penge East station not long ago.

“You hear stories of people getting mugged; I wonder if that’s what happened in this case.

“Could be a mugging gone wrong, some people try and be heroes.

Mr Thomas, a freelancer who walks his dog in the park added: “This park was the reason I moved to the area, I come here every day.”

Living just off Station Road, he said: “This hasn’t changed my perception of the area; I have a very realistic view of it all.

“Unless actual war breaks out I’m not going to stay inside.”
