A 19-year-old man repeatedly stabbed near Blackhorse Lane tram stop yesterday is in a stable condition, police have said.

The teenager, from South Norwood, was knifed on a footpath leading to the stop at about 4.45pm. 

It is understood he was stabbed in the neck.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

British Transport Police found a knife at the tram stop and are to study CCTV footage in a bid to trace the attacker.

A spokesman said: "During the incident, a 19-year-old man from South Norwood received several stab wounds.

"He has since been taken to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries where he currently remains in a stable condition."

He added: “Officers are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. We are currently conducting local enquiries, including speaking to witnesses and obtaining CCTV from the area."
