A real-life Del Boy was caught out flogging "Chamele no5" perfume at Surrey Street market.

In dodgy dealing even the elder Trotter brother would have dismissed as amateur, the young conman was touting fake Chanel fragrance from a plastic bag.

The plonker was rumbled when a shopper smelled a rat and tipped off a Croydon Council market inspector, who confisciated counterfeit bottles of Chanel No5 and Dolce and Gabbana Hidden Code.

But the scam artist, who was selling 100ml bottles with £96 price togs on for under a tenner, fled before police arrived.

Council leader Tony Newman said: “It's a shame this rogue chose to target Surrey Street for his criminal activities.

A market inspector confiscated the perfumes

"Our historic market is the workplace of many good, decent traders, making an honest living, and they certainly don’t want this sort of thing happening in their midst.

“It's a sad fact of life that there are people who are prepared to rip off others by producing vastly inferior goods and selling them as trusted brands at what appear to be bargain prices.

“In truth, the goods are anything but a bargain. The fact they were being sold from a plastic carrier bag should have rung alarm bells."

While Only Fools and Horses favourite Del Boy never flogged counterfeit perfume, one episode saw him bottle tap water and tout it as "Peckham Spring Water".
