Work has begun on a £3.2m improvement programme for a street which was badly damaged in the 2011 riots.
The money will be spent on improvements to London Road, including £600,000 to overhaul shop and building fronts.
Pavements will be widened and repaved and new cycle parking and seating areas will be put in.
The initial 30-week phase of works, due to be completed by next summer, has begun in West Croydon and will move north along London Road.
London Road will also become one-way from Monday, September 22, for several weeks and parking bays will need to be suspended to allow contractors access to carry out works safely.
Go to croydon.gov.uk/londonroad or follow @YourCroydon on Twitter to keep up to date with the works.
