A new Morrisons supermarket on Purley Way will officially open today.

The new 'Craft Skills Academy' store will champion the traditional skills of its staff working across the butchery, bakery and fish counters.

The store which opens at 9am, will include a continental style deli counter, 140 cuts of meat in the butchery and an unrivalled selection of more than 80 cheeses from the UK and around the world.

At the bakery there will be up to 48 varieties of bread baked fresh from scratch throughout the day by Morrisons bakers.

The 37,000 sq ft store will also include a patisserie style Cake Shop, a ‘make your own’ Pizza counter and a ‘Fresh to Go’ area serving food to take away.

Store General Manager Brendan O’Grady said: "The Craft Skills Academy means we have more skilled craftsmen and women on our counters than any other supermarket and means that many products are created by these specialists in-store every single day.

"The team have worked hard to train as specialists in areas such as wine, butchery and bakery and we pride ourselves on the knowledge and advice we can offer to customers.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming shoppers to our new store and would like to thank the local residents for their patience while it was being built."
