Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in an alleyway in Caterham.

The incident happened at 12.45am on January 5, in an alleyway between Whyteleafe Road and Burntwood Lane.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, was approached by a man who pulled at her clothing causing her to fall to the floor.

She managed to get up and run to a place of safety, but suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The suspect is described as a white man aged in his early 20s, around 5ft 9in tall of slim build with broad shoulders.

He had stubble on his face and was wearing a dark coloured hoodie with a thick white zip and dark baggy jeans which were low on the waist.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Sang, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who was in this area who recalls seeing a man matching the suspects description.

"Given the time of the morning, he may have been making his way back from one of the public houses in the town and I would urge anyone who may have information about this man's identity to get in touch immediately."

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 101 quoting reference TD/13/76 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
