A charity presentation is being held after a Sutton mariners club member walked along the coast of Britain in a bid to fundraise for two major charities.

Sutton Mariners Sailing Club member Ken Scott, 56, of Steyning in West Sussex, completed a more than 1,800-mile trek across the coast of Britain in 107 days last February.

The photographer and adventurer did it for Parkinson’s UK and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) after his father-in-law, Harold, died following his diagnosis in 2015.

Fellow club member Derek Fowler said: “Ken was therefore only too well aware of Parkinson’s slow and debilitating condition that is very difficult to bear, and [it] often slips under the radar of publicity.

“Also, having been brought up still living near the coast, Ken was very conscious of the magnificent work of the RNLI saving at sea without discrimination.”

More than £4,100 has been raised for both charities at the time of writing, with the presentation aiming to illustrate the journey through photographs taken at the time.

Non-members will be asked for a £5 donation at the door, which will be split between the two charities.

Sutton Mariners Sailing Club is a landlocked club with members' yachts berthed on the south coast, comprising of 60 members.

The event will be held at the Borough Sports Ground, in Gander Green Lane, on March 22 at 8pm.
