Parents at Thomson House School have come up with a “simple yet effective way” of making the crossing at Mortlake station safer for pedestrians.

The Thomson House Buggy Park allows parents doing the morning school run with buggies and prams the chance to leave their pre-school kids with trusted volunteer parents when the barriers are down.

They can then use the footbridge to safely drop off their children at school.

Parent volunteer and organiser Ed Coke said, “Buggy Park is a simple yet effective idea.

“It reduces congestion at the railway crossing during the morning school run, and helps parents get their children to school on time without having to worry about when the barriers will go up. We're delighted to celebrate our 100th Buggy Park user in less than two months. It shows that the local community can find solutions to improve railway and road safety rather than waiting for others to take the lead.”
