For kids with cancer, it is a room that is all too familiar.

Inside the four plain walls at Croydon University Hospital, children would undergo blood transfusions and other medical reviews.

Now that same room has undergone a stunning transformation.

Bright and colourful images inspired by Dame Jacqueline Wilson’s books now adorn the walls of the clinic room in The Willows Children’s Outpatients Department.

This was something the author herself was more than happy to see.

"I'm so pleased and proud that Tudor has designed such a wonderful room using Nick Sharratt's illustrations from my books," Mrs Wilson said.

"If looking at the pictures gives a sick child some entertainment or comfort I shall be so happy."

What once was a plain white room now sees images of children playing in the sea, a hot air balloon and kids jumping up and down for joy.

Willows Ward Sister at CUH, Ann-Marie Baker, said this was a much needed change.

“The Jacqueline Wilson refurbishment has transformed the room to a bright and colourful space, and we couldn’t be more grateful," she said.

“Children often feel anxious when visiting hospital, and having a creative room with storyboards as wall art to distract and calm them can make such a difference.

"We can’t thank Momentum Children’s Charity and the funders enough for making this makeover possible.”
