A 17-year-old boy from Twickenham is due in court next month after police said they found him with a nine-inch knife in Whitton.
Police said that after a foot chase, the teenager was detained, stop and searched, and arrested once the weapon was found.
Richmond Police tweeted: “Youth arrested by #ResponseTeamD for possession of this knife.
"#SayNoToKnifeCrime one less weapon on the streets. Top job."
The teenager is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court in December.
Knife crime in the capital rose 24 per cent to 12,021 in the last year, meaning an extra 2,327 incidents involving a blade were committed.
