A bookmakers in Ewell has been held up by a person wearing a hi-vis vest and wielding what police believe was a hatchet.

The suspect, wearing a visor over his face, went into Coral in Chessington Road at around 5pm on Saturday (November 18) wearing a high visibility vest, white trainers, balaclava and a bike helmet with the visor down.

They also wore a black bag which they were wearing diagonally across their body.

Surrey Police described the crime as “a frightening ordeal for the people who were in the bookmakers at the time” and are appealing for witnesses and CCTV.

They said: “We are not sure how the suspect got to the bookmakers, from their choice of outfit this could have been by motorbike, however, this may not be the case.

“If you were in the area, please can you review any CCTV or dash cam footage?”
