A team of Merton footballers, who are all aged over 55, are celebrating victory in a London-wide tournament- on their team debut.
The team of "walking footballers" won a tournament involving eight other London boroughs, beating Waltham Forest in a thrilling final that went to a penalty shout-out.
Team Merton captain Alex Leon said it was "a fantastic event." He said: "It’s great to see adults in and around our age staying fit and keeping active. We are really looking forward to next year.”
Walking football has been described as "five-a-side football without running," and was invented to inspire men over 50 to get more exercise.
The tournament, held at Ferndale Community Sports Centre, Brixton, was organised by leisure centre operator Better.
