A Epsom school nurse has received a top national award in front of more than 1,000 of her peers at a glitzy awards night in Mayfair

Katrina Sealey works with children and young people up to 19 years old in schools in Epsom, Ewell and Banstead was hailed as a "rising star" at the Nursing Times Awards 2017.

Following a rigorous judging process, she emerged as the winner in the Rising Star category for her positive influence on the profession and the pupils she cares for.

Katrina said: “Winning the Rising Star award was a wonderful surprise and I had an amazing night!”

Around 1,100 nursing professionals form across the country attended the ceremony at the glamorous Grosvenor House in Mayfair on Thursday November 2, there were 23 award categories in total.

Sarah Baker, from the NHS's Children and Family Health Surrey team, said: “This is a magnificent achievement and recognition of Katrina’s commitment to school nursing.

“I am delighted that one of our school nurses won such a prestigious award, amongst fierce competition from the other high calibre entries.

“Katrina is a great example of what can be achieved with hard work, passion and dedication in your chosen profession.”

Jenni Middleton, editor of Nursing Times and the host of the awards, said: “Nursing is not just about the high-profile images of the profession you see in the media.

“The Nursing Times Awards shine a light on these areas of the profession that we don’t see as much.”
