A man was taken to hospital and four fire brigade staff were injured after a fire engine crashed into a vehicle in Tooting yesterday (September 20).

London Fire Brigade staff were responding to a 999 call to an automatic fire alarm at the time of the collision at 12.20pm in Church Lane.

The staff were treated at the scene for minor injuries while the man was transported to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “A full investigation into the circumstances of the collision, will now take place.

“The fire engine involved in the collision was on its way to an incident where a fire alarm had sounded. There was no fire at this incident and two other fire engines were also in attendance.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said a paramedic in a car, incident response officer and ambulance crew were at the scene when they were called at 12.27pm.

The man who was taken to hospital was treated at the scene for spinal injuries and made a priority at a major trauma centre.

A Met spokesperson said that officers were called to the scene at 12.31pm in attendance with the London Ambulance Service and road closures were put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident.

No arrests have been made.
