A 14-year-old has racked up a club record partnership for her Earlsfield cricket team alongside a former professional player.

Maddie Blinkhorn-Jones and ex-India player Deepa Patel achieved a partnership of 275 in their win for Spencer CC Women’s 1st XI against Guildford CC on Sunday, August 20. They put on 304-2 against the Guildford team.

The team are in the running for title at the Women’s Southern Championship, which will finish on September 3.

Man-of-the-match Blinkhorn-Jones scored an unbeaten 117 off 131 balls, and Patel scored 171 off 130 balls.

Though only 14, Miss Blinkhorn-Jones already represents Surrey U17s and has hit three centuries at junior level in her relatively short career. She also plays hockey for Spencer, who came fourth in the U14 National Championships in 2016.

Ms Patel is the leading run-scorer in the club’s men and women’s teams, and the league. She joined the team this year and has scored 631 runs this season and is averaging 63.11 with the bat.

Starting out in the streets of Gujarat province as a junior – ‘Gully cricket’ – Ms Patel eventually played for the Gujarati team at the sub-juniors national championships in 2004.

Captain Tamara Reeves said: "We are very proud of Maddie and Deepa’s achievement today. They have trained hard throughout the season and deserved to see the fruit of that hard work.

"This has been a fantastic season for the team and for the club, with lots of great performances from our team, and a great team spirit. We were very excited to start a Women’s 2nd XI this year to encourage the development of the game at the club, and it is going from strength-to-strength."
