An Epsom care home resident has transformed its garden with new flowers, flower beds and its own potting shed.

Colin Nockolds, of Longmead Road, has spent much of his time in the garden at Appleby Care Home and was keen to allow for more plants to be potted.

He put his suggestion forward to staff at the care home and, with their help, designed how it should look and what should be included.

Colin finalised his plans and later visited a local garden centre where he selected the flowers and was helped in constructing the new raised flower beds.

A potting shed was also brought in to house his gardening tools which was built in the home’s courtyard.

Shona Bradbury, home manager at Appleby House, said: “Ever since the project started in March, Colin has come out of his shell and loves talking to everyone about his plans for the garden.

“It’s great to see how enthusiastic Colin has been about the project, and every week he has worked hard to make his vision come true.

“Completing the project was a memorable moment for Colin and he has already been enjoying spending time tending to the plans.

“Thanks to his plans, residents are also now able to grow their own fruit and vegetables, which are coming along nicely.

“We want to thank everyone who took part as well at Outwoodcare who helped us source the garden equipment Colin requested.”
