Sutton's MP has demanded more details from the Government about the testing on cladding tower blocks following the Grenfell tragedy.

Sutton and Cheam MP Paul Scully asked the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for more details about the cladding testing programme in Parliament last week.

He said: “People in Chaucer House in Sutton, one of the two council owned tower blocks, have rightly been asking questions following the failure of the sample that was tested especially with the grading one, two, three [because] they weren’t quite sure what that meant.

“Residents in Balaam House nearby will also be asking questions when their results come back. I wonder if the Secretary of State can give further details about the systems testing procedure that’s now been introduced by the government?”

Sajiid Javid, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, responded: “It’s perfectly reasonable to ask these questions because these tests are being done on the back of expert advice and some of them are naturally complex and it does require a proper explanation. That’s why we have already issued an explanatory note on the new system test that will be available very shortly.”
