An angry man took out his frustration by holding up traffic for 20 minutes in Putney Hill on Monday.

The man, who was furious because the Route 85 bus refused to pick him up at a stop closed for repairs, stood in front of the vehicle in protest causing tail backs to the high street and the junction at the south circular to be blocked.

The nearest bus stop was half way up the hill.

Declan Wyatt, who filmed the incident, told the Wandsworth Guardian: "The driver refused to let him on and therefore the man protested by standing in front of the bus so it couldn’t move."

A passenger got off the bus and tried to persuade the man to move while the driver called the police.

He told the protester that when the police arrived he would ask for him to be arrested.

One passer-by showed his support by saying "teach TfL a lesson".

Your Local Guardian:

Police arrive

Declan said: "The whole thing went on for about 20 minutes until the police arrived.

"The bus drove off and the police sent the protester away. He then walked back to the high street to get the next bus!

"I found it quite funny at first and really thought he would move. But as he stood there for longer it became boring and people started to lose their nerve with him.

"Fair play to him for standing up for himself but over a bus stop? Really?"
