Browns restaurant along Kingston's riverside has revealed their elegant new menu - even offering gluten free lobster and fries and vegan taglitelle.

Tucked away along the quiet banks of the Thames in Riverside Walk, Browns offers a classic and stylish atmosphere not usually associated with a chain restaurant.

A huge grand piano marks the centrepiece of the room, and although we weren't wooed with any tunes during our evening, it certainly struck diners as they were ushered through to their stylishly set tables.

Starting off with two medium glasses of the Cinsault rosé wine, we tucked into the first course of the night, consisting firstly of a whole baked Somerset camembert with warm toasted bread and tomato and rhubarb chutney.

Ordered initially as a single starter and assured by the smartly-dressed waiting staff it would be enough for one, it proved to be too filling for just one mouth.

Luckily, my fellow diner was more than happy to share the sweet starter alongside her appetiser of asparagus and proscuitto ham with a poached free range egg and hollandaise sauce.

For our mains, I opted for the slightly flakey portabello mushroom tart - a puff pastry filled with seasonal mushrooms, and topped with asparagus stems and a deliciously fresh pea shoot salad.

My companion opted for the courgette mint and lemon tagliatelle - perfect for any vegan or vegetarian diner - with an added side of grilled chicken breast.

Both chocolate fans, we threw ourselves into the chocolate brownie and honeycomb ice cream with Devon cream and toffee sauce and trio of chocolate - a warm chocolate fondant, white chocolate pot, chocolate ice cream, complimented with hazelnut praline.

All in all, a visit to this elegant restaurant won't break the bank and offers great food with great service.
