The burglar who stole a priceless laptop from the mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne is still at large.

Dr Sara Payne, 47, took to Twitter to flag up the theft of the computer, which contained memories and details about her daughter and her charity work.

She said online that her home in Hersham was raided overnight on February 17, and a laptop containing countless hours of the campaigner's work was stolen.

But she now appears to have given up all hope of getting her laptop back.

At the time, Dr Payne, 47, tweeted: "#Burgled, Please, whoever you are, I implore you to return my laptop, it has all of my Phoenix/SarahsLaw/book work on it, I'm lost without it."

The burglar is understood to have crept into the back garden of Dr Payne's home before breaking into an outbuilding, The theft took place the week Dr Payne's daughter Charlotte, 22, launched her singing career.

They also broke into two cars belonging to the family, but did not manage to steal anything from the vehicles.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Officers attended Riverside Road in Walton upon Thames on Friday 17 February following reports of a burglary at an address.

"Between the hours of 2am and 6am, an intruder gained entry to the rear garden of the property and broke into an outbuilding where a laptop was stolen.

"Two cars at the address were also broken into but nothing was believed to have been stolen from them."

On Tuesday Dr Payne appeared to have given up on getting her laptop back.

She tweeted: "#Burgled Like most crime victims, probably won't see my belongings again, I've come to terms with that, now I just want us to survive it.

"Even if I got the laptop back now, I don't think I'd want to use it anymore, so starting again from scratch seems the best way forward. "

Currently Dr Payne works alongside child sex abuse survivor Shy Keenan on The Phoenix Post, which speaks for those whose lives have been affected by paedophile crimes.

She was granted an honorary doctorate by the Open University in 2012 in recognition of her charity work.

Sarah was abducted and murdered at just eight years old by known paedophile Roy Whiting in July 2000.
