A man who died in a freak accident at a Wimbledon building site has been named locally as Kevin Hoare.

According to the Irish Post, Mr Hoare, 25, was originally from the small village of Bealaha, near to Doonbeg in County Clare, Ireland, and had moved to London with his brother for work.

The newspaper said it understood Mr Hoare’s parents were visiting him in London at the time of his death.

Mr Hoare was killed in a building site in Cranbrook Road, off Worple Road, on Monday, February 13.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said they were called to Cranbrook Road by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 1.45pm after a man was “reported injured while working with concrete”. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told this newspaper that a ball used to clean out concrete pumps had become wedged in the pipe, causing a build-up of pressure. The ball came flying out of the pump with force and collided with Mr Hoare as he stood nearby.

Witness Stephen Burrows, 55, from south Wimbledon, said: “It hit him straight in the head and lifted him off the ground. It was awful.

“It looked like a freak accident.

“It was instant, I’m sure he didn’t feel it.

“I will never forget it. It was horrendous. I will never forget it for as long as I live.”
