What I love about the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is the little pocket of communities that are tucked away within it.

I’ve moved around a couple of times within the area, so it’s been nice to have experienced different parts and make lots of friends.

When I first moved into the area many moons ago, I would often go to Canbury Gardens to run by the river, play tennis with Michael or go for a walk.

In recent times the main focus has been the playground which my little ones love.

So when I was asked to switch on the refurbed lights by the Canbury and Riverside Association, I had to say yes!

It was a fun night at the Boaters Inn (who kindly laid on some drinks and nibbles) and it was great to be part of that community for the evening and know the lights would help to make it a safer and inviting place at night.

A momentous event took place this week; my son had his first sports day.

I think this was a bigger occasion for Michael and me to be honest. We just couldn’t believe it.

How did this happen? It seems these milestones come round quicker than expected and I’m still not getting used to it.

My own memories of school sports days will now slowly pale into insignificance as I watch my children experience theirs.

I was poised with a camera and video camera to capture the moments, stood at the side lines cheering away with the other mums, dads and siblings.

Finally, I wanted to give you a cycling update; I’ve managed to drag myself up Box Hill a couple of times. It’s a magnificent and breath-taking view once you get to the top.

We are so lucky to live in Surrey and have this wonderful landscape around us. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the area on two wheels as I aim to get more proficient.

Oh by the way, I’ve stopped falling over you’ll be pleased to hear!
