Councillor Richard Clifton announced his chosen charities to support through fundraising in his first year of office would be Sutton Shop Mobility and the Alzheimer’s Society.
Richard Clifton, councillor for Sutton South, became the borough’s 52nd mayor during a full council meeting on Monday.
In his opening speech in the Europa Gallery, Cllr Clifton, first elected in 2010, said: “It’s a great honour to be elected to be mayor of the borough. I’m deeply touched.
“My wife Gloria and I will do our utmost to repay the trust you have shown in us and I sincerely thank you.“
