Primary school helped themselves to a healthy hamper as they learned about the origin of their favourite fruits and vegetables.

Sixty children at St Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School in North Cheam had fun making smoothies and fruit kebabs from food that had been donated by staff from the nearby Asda supermarket.

Carine Megens, the school’s science co-ordinator and organiser of the workshop, said: “It was such a great opportunity to introduce the children to a fun and hands-on approach of getting your five-a-day.

“The smoothies went down a treat and we have plans to plant our vegetable seeds in the school garden for the pupils to nurture.”
