A cyclist was beaten up and suffered serious injuries in a “vicious and unprovoked” road rage attack after an argument in Esher.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after the attack, involving a man in his 50s cycling in Portsmouth Road just outside the entrance to Sandown Racecourse.

The cyclist got into an argument with the driver of a blue or black saloon just after 5pm on Monday, November 15.

The driver then got out of the car and attacked him, leaving him with facial injuries, before driving away, Surrey Police said.

The driver was said to be a white man, 5ft 10ins, of medium build and with receding dark hair.

His registration number was also said to end in DEZ.

PC Maria Budd said: “This was a nasty incident where the victim has suffered serious injuries in what was clearly a vicious and unprovoked attack.

“The assault happened in a very public place at a busy time of time so I feel certain that other motorists and pedestrians must have seen the incident taking place.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone with any details on where the dark-coloured vehicle went immediately following the attack.”
