A paperchain the length of the Shard has been created by Wimbledon Domestic and General to help raise money for national helpline Get Connected, the national charity of the year.

The paperchain was made on Tuesday, December 1 and measured 309 metres in length.

Wimbledon Times:

The links in the chain feature messages from supporters for their loved ones, above, young people across the UK and all of the volunteers who will run the Get Connected, a free and confidential helpline for under 25s, in the holiday season.

The Brighton and Nottingham Domestic and offices also took part in the ‘Chains for Change’ challenge and donations will be collected during the day as part of #GivingTuesday - the global day of giving following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Alison Bowyer, a Get Connected volunteer, said: "For some young people, Christmas can often be the loneliest time of the year.

"It’s so important for Get Connected to remain open during the festive season – so that young people not only have someone to talk to, but they have support to find reliable help if they’re going through a tough time."

Since their partnership, Domestic and General has raised just under £20,000 for Get Connected from events including a ‘ride 999’ bike challenge in May and regular dress down days.
