A young man was left lying unconscious in the road after an apparent hit-and-run on Sunday morning.

Police said they were called to Alway Avenue, in Ewell, at 8am, to reports of a man found lying in the road with his bicycle.

The man, in his early 20s, was assessed and treated on the road before being taken to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, hospital with head, neck, hip and rib pain.

Posting on the What’s On in Epsom Facebook page on Sunday, Lisa Holland said: "My son was knocked off his bike this morning at about 7am in Alway Avenue, West Ewell, by a silver car who failed to stop.

"He was found unconscious in the road and taken to St George’s. Thankfully he [is] ok-ish.

"But if anyone saw or knows anything or notices any new damage to a silver car please let me know. Many thanks."

Police said they were carrying out enquiries "to establish the full circumstances of the incident".
