An alpaca slipped in for a shave as part of a sheep shearing event at the weekend which raised £2,000 for a city farm.

More than 1,000 people of all ages packed into Deen City Farm’s sheep shearing and family fun day on Saturday.

Children hugged lambs, handled guinea pigs and had pony rides as part of the event which raised £2,000 for the farm’s running costs in Windsor Avenue.

Wimbledon Times:

A barbecue run by Zest Property Services kept stomachs full as Tom Davies, a lecturer at Capel Manor College, demonstrated the best way to shear a sheep, and a cheeky alpaca.

A total of 13 sheep got a haircut on the day, and the fleece was then spun into wool by Ann Wasielewska, pictured below.

Wimbledon Times:

Simon Lynn, operations manager at the farm said the annual fundraising day was a great success.

Mr Lynn said: "We had 13 sheep sheared on the day and an alpaca got a hair cut too.

"They are a bit bigger and more flighty.

"He just kept still long enough."

Music was provided by the Sound Lounge with an open mic session attracting singers and guitarists.
