A teacher and minibus from Twickenham Preparatory School saved the day after 30 year one pupils were left stranded following a school trip.

The children, aged between five and six years old, and nine adults from St Mary’s Primary School in Hampton were stuck at Fulwell station for more than 45 minutes after their train back from the Natural History Museum was cancelled on Monday morning [April 27].

Surrounded by a crowd of commuters, a call was made to Twickenham Prep School and teacher Mrs Hepburn arrived in the school's minibus to return the children to the school in two trips.

Nikki McLachlan, office administrator at St Mary's, said: "We are so, so grateful to Twickenham Prep for helping us out in our hour of need.

"It showed great community spirit between our two schools and we will be forever grateful for turning the last part of the school trip out into a bit of an adventure for the children."
