Firefighters tackled a blaze behind a pet shop in Rosehill after tonnes of builders rubbish caught alight this morning.
The fire in Rosehill Avenue, near St Helier Hospital, is believed to have started shortly after 10.10am this morning and a crew from Sutton fire station was called.
Firefighters remained at the incident at 11.30am this morning and a spokesman from Sutton fire station said the crew were likely to be at the scene for some time.
One person has been taken to St Helier Hospital for treatment.
The fire is not believed to be directly affecting the pet shop in Wrythe Lane, but smoke was seen coming from the area behind the shop.
Witness Matt Shine said: "We could see the black smoke from quite far down Wrythe [Lane] and at first thought it was coming from the hospital.
"As we got closer we realised it was from the flats above or [at] the back of the shops. There was one fire engine and a lot of people watching from the flats."
