Swimmers in Wimbledon raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity on Sunday as part of a nationwide fundraising drive.

Children and adults took part in the Swimathon at Wimbledon Leisure Centre in aid of Marie Curie.

Swimathons took place at the Canons Leisure Centre in Mitcham and Morden Park Pools over the weekend too, with participants able to choose whether they covered 1.5k, 2.5km or 5k.

Dubbed 'the UK's biggest fundraising swimming event', the swimmers have joined more than half a million others in raising more than £40m for charities over the past 27 years.

This year's Swimathon took place at leisure centres across the country from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19.

Duncan Goodhew MBE, Olympic gold medallist and London 2012 Ambassador and Swimathon President, said: "Swimathon provides motivation and a personal challenge to swimmers nationwide.

"It also offers a goal to train for, a target to achieve and a great cause to support."
