The funeral for a man who "cared passionately" about the borough was held last week.

Colin Hall was deputy leader of Sutton Council when he died on Monday, March 30.

The former Wallington South councillor had been battling cancer.

His funeral, described as a small family affair, was held in Eastbourne on Thursday, April 16. Also in attendance were a small number of councillors and officers.

As a mark of respect Sutton Council's flag was flown at half mast over its civic offices.

His death was also formally announced at the Monday, April 20, full council meeting that featured a two-minutes silence as well as tributes from council leader Ruth Dombey and opposition leader Tim Crowley.

As well working as a Liberal Democrat councillor Mr Hall had worked as Carshalton and Wallington constituency organiser for Tom Brake.

Mr Hall was born in 1961. He is survived by three children, Tom, Emma and David.

The byelection for his Wallington South seat will be held after the general election at a date to be confirmed.
